Panellists from one of the UK’s largest wholesale businesses joined international representation at a high-level produce conference in Chile this month.
Tim Barnes and Jon Clark from Total Worldfresh specialist divisions T&JB Produce and Total Cherry attended Fedefrutta at Sheraton Hotel in Santiago earlier this month.
The event was a combination of round table discussions, presentations and a panel discussion to aid the development of the Chilean agricultural industry.
Barnes and Clark were part of the panel of experts, alongside other members from China, Korea, the US and continental Europe for the opening seminar of the event.
The event was attended by well more than 1,000 people each day covering all aspects of the agricultural sector.
The Chilean president Sebastian Pinera was expected to attend but due to progress in the rescue of the miners was replaced by The Chilean minister of agriculture who gave a speech during the opening ceremony on the Chilean economy, the importance of agriculture to the country, and the current dependence on being experts in the world of exports.
Total Cherry’s Jon Clark said: “The event was well organised and was a good forum for growers to understand the export markets further and for ourselves to understand the grower desires and movements in Chile which are changing.”
