A strong showing on the operational side has led to Total Produce's UK business maintaining consistency on the revenue front.

The fresh produce giant, which has topped both editions of the FPJ Big 50 Companies, posted a 2015 full-year turnover figure nigh-on identical to the commanding £401 million 2014 number that saw it hold off the UK's second biggest fruit and veg firm

Poupart to reach top spot in the most recent edition of the FPJ industry guide.

The Total Produce group as a whole, meanwhile, grew revenue by 10.4 per cent to €3.5bn (£2.8bn) in 2015.

The UK arm of the business features as part of Total Produce's Europe Non-Eurozone division. This segment – which includes the group’s businesses in the Czech Republic, Poland, Scandinavia and the UK – saw revenues increase by 7.6 per cent to €1.5bn (£1.2bn) with adjusted EBITA (earnings before interest, tax and amortisation) increasing by 14.4 per cent to €38.6m (£30.4m).

A spokesperson for Total Produce said: “Trading conditions in the Europe Non-Eurozone segment were good with average price increases and a strong operational performance.

'There was a net positive benefit on the translation of the results of foreign currency denominated operations to euro, primarily due to the strengthening of sterling. On a like-for-like basis excluding acquisitions, divestments and currency translation, revenue was around five per cent ahead of the prior year due to average price increases.”

In the report accompanying the accounts, chairman Carl McCann said: “The group is ambitious to continue its growth and deliver long-term shareholder value through organic growth, innovation, operational efficiencies and continued acquisitions and partnerships.”
