Top-fruit tree supplier Frank P Matthews is offering a range of UK-grown apples for growers looking ahead to this season and the next.

The nursery service, based in Worcestershire, offers grown-to-order trees, as well as a range of established and newer varieties of the fruit.

It supplies early-season varieties such as Discovery and Red Windsor, described as “the early Cox”, as well as speciality products such as Herefordshire Russet.

It is also offering growers the chance to branch into cooking apples with its Bramley Clone 20 which, it claims, is 15 per cent higher yielding than its traditional counterpart.

The organic trees offer a continual harvest from August to October and provide natural storage to March.

The company also grows cider trees as well as Red Falstaff apples for juicing, to allow growers to diversify into the drinks market.

In a release to growers, it said its new eight-month tree could provide a number of opportunities for producers keen to plant and harvest quickly.

It said: “[The trees have] early planting opportunities before the onset of the poor late autumn weather and excellent establishment in the first year due to the pot-grown root system, which makes this a great alternative to orchard establishment.”

In order to help establish good growth, the company also provides Malus pollinators to provide pollen for single variety plantations.
