Swedish veg packer LE Vegetables has announced that it will use Lincolshire company Tong Peal for a ‘major new investment’ in preparing potatoes for high quality markets.

Two directors from LEV toured several UK packers looking at Tong Peal machinery in operation, before placing an order for a complete reception, grading, washing and polishing system with 15 tonnes per hour capacity.

LEV was set up in 2002 to supply shops and wholesale markets with top quality produce, sourcing locally produced produce, as well as potatoes from leading European growers.

Barry Ledger, Tong Peal’s export sales manager, said: “The challenge for us was to design the complete system to fit into a very compact space. The system had to include our new big bag/box tipper, soil extraction and destining as well as washing and polishing.”

Production manager Dan Jonsson said the company had invested heavily in achieving and monitoring quality to satisfy customers such as ICA, which is the market leader in supplying Swedish retailers.
