Le Page has been unable to renew contracts for 2014

A tomato grower may be forced to close leading to a possible loss of 15 jobs after failing to secure new yearly contracts for 2014.

Anthony Le Page, owner of Petit Creux in Vale, Guernsey, told the BBC that the Guernsey tomato is under threat as supermarkets are choosing to buying cheaper European products.

European growers are undercutting their Guernsey counterparts by 20 per cent, Le Page told the BBC.

74-year-old Le Page, who grows cherry and plum tomatoes, told The Guernsey Press that the decision to shut his four-and-a-half acres of glass was weighing heavily on him.

He has been a tomato grower for five decades but,The Guernsey Press reported, unless a new contract comes along the business will close.
