Titchmarsh presents Writtle students

New Writtle College graduates were honoured by Alan Titchmarsh in two ceremonies which took place last week.

A further ceremony took place the following day, where Dr Tony Rich, Registrar and Secretary of University of Essex, presented graduates with their awards.

Business Management, Agriculture, Rural Resources, Leisure management, Horituculture, Floristry, Interior Design and Garden Design, Sport, Equine and Animal Science/Management graduates were presented with degrees at the ceremonies, which were also attended by Professor Nigel South of the University of Essex.

The events were the first graduations for college principal Professor David Butcher, and the head of HE, Dr Jeremy Strong.

At the Thursday morning ceremony, Duchess of Kent Awards were presented to Jill Baldwin, the college’s head of careers, and John Williams, the senior science technician, in recognition of their services.

During the Friday ceremony, the Writtle College Students’ Union presented cheques to charities including the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust, Colchester Zoo, Freeplay Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Butcher said: “The three ceremonies went very well and we were delighted that Alan Titchmarsh and Dr Tony Rich were able to attend the graduations and honour our students. The number of graduates involved in each ceremony is testament to the hard work they put in to their studies while at the College. We are very proud of each and every one of them.”
