The world’s smallest tangerines will make a UK debut this Christmas at Marks & Spencer.
Tiny Tangerines - also known as the Emperor’s Delicacy because they were said to have been a favourite of the Chinese royal family - measure just 40-45 millimetres in diameter.
The ancient variety, which has been grown in the Jiangxi region of China for 1,300 years, has never been exported outside South East Asia. The distinctively sized fruit will retail at £2.49 for 300g.
M&S fruit specialist Richard Brown said: “The Tiny Tangerines have a delicious sweet taste, are easy to peel, and their size makes them really stand out.
“More people are looking for something different to buy and novelty fruit is more popular than ever so we expect Tiny Tangerines to have a real Christmas appeal.” l
