Tiger pears find their stripes

Tiger pears set to hit the market in the next four to five years were showcased at the National Fruit Show last week.

The variety, developed by Next Fruit Generation, is a clone of Conference that was found on a tree in the Netherlands five years ago.

Will Sibley, on the Verbeek stand at the show, said: “The variety will now be developed and looked at to see if it has any different characteristics to Conference, with regard to growing or storing.

“They will try to find a market place for it.”
