The Berry Gardens model, formed from the merger of KG Fruits, Driscoll’s and Alconeras in 2007, and the subsequent re-organisation of the European businesses, is holding up extremely well despite shifts in the berry market, according to md Nick Marston.

Speaking to members of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Food, Drink & Agriculture Group this week, he said: “Even with the best models, you need to stay on course and adjust.

“The model for our UK business still holds - we have come a long way from when the merger was formed. The market has shifted, but berries are a good place to be.

“We pride ourselves on a high service level. You have to add value to every retailer’s business so they will retain you as a supplier.”
