The Higgins Group is celebrating after its Smile variety of potato gained a listing in Tesco under its Finest banner.
The retailer is stocking the potato, distinctive by its white “smile” marking on a pink skin, in its north London stores.
David Higgins, managing director of the Higgins Group, said: “Smile’s mild flavour is proving to be a big hit with consumers. It’s skin is fairly thin and colour remains after boiling, rendering it both visually pleasing and full of taste. It has proved so popular that this season’s crop has sold out.”
He said the potato is a versatile all-rounder, being equally suitable for chipping, boiling, baking and roasting.
