Kent glasshouse complex Thanet Earth has been recognised for supporting local jobseekers into long-term employment.
Thanet Earth Marketing linked up with the Shaw Trust, which has helped the company find local people who need help to be independent and economically active. The project has been a year in development starting with discussions around work experience, training and potential employment.
Hasan Hijazi, employer engagement consultant at the trust said: “Our clients are often disabled or disadvantaged, and while they have the potential and will to work, they benefit from more tailored support than is usually practical or available through the usual jobseeker support services.”
The trust seeks to foster a more inclusive society and to help support employers who could benefit from a broader recruitment base.
Shaw Trust has helped Thanet Earth Marketing recruit two members of staff; Gary Stupples and Tyrone Chawner-Bennett, who were matched respectively to vacancies in the quality assurance team and as a forklift driver. Both have now been working in the company for over six months.
Thanet Earth managing director Ian Craig is full of praise for the partnership with Shaw Trust. “This link has provided our business with two super employees, and I’m extremely pleased to hear confirmation from them and from all involved that our collaboration is working.
'We’ll use our position as a prominent local employer to offer further opportunities in an employment landscape which can, at times, look pretty bleak.”
