TGA knows the score

British tomato growers added another medal to this year’s crop last week, when Flavourfresh Salads won gold at the Southport Flower Show.

The event’s theme was music, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the re-location of Southport’s iconic bandstand, which has provided live entertainment for visitors to the show for many years.

The tomato display by Flavourfresh Salads took the form of a stave with notes, illustrating a musical score.

Visitors who could name the tune received a Tomato Growers’ Association (TGA) cookbook.

Mick Fradsham, managing director of Flavourfresh Salads, said that huge numbers of visitors also tasted the tomato samples on offer and were delighted with the flavour and variety of British tomatoes.

Julie Woolley at the TGA added: “We are thrilled by the continued success of Flavourfresh Salads, and its increasingly innovative tomato displays.

“All the shows we attend take a lot of effort and organisation by TGA members, both in terms of staffing and supplying fruit. Being at shows and getting our message across to consumers is an important part of what we do, and an excellent way to trumpet all that is great about British tomatoes.

“Many congratulations to all at Flavourfresh Salads for winning gold - a really noteworthy performance in fact!”
