Tesco chairman, David Reid is the new president of the IGD.

Reid, who will be supported by vice president Alastair Sykes, chairman and chief executive of Nestlé UK, will chair the Policy Issues Council, which is an industry leaders’ forum looking at the long-term challenges facing the industry. He said; "I have been involved with IGD as a member of the Policy Issues Council for 12 years, working with chairmen and chief executives from across the industry, identifying where we can make significant improvements to benefit shoppers. The work has focussed on nutrition, crisis management, supporting British agriculture and improving supply chain efficiency. As president I look forward to directing future work in this and other critical areas of business. Given my overseas experience with Tesco, I also hope to help IGD broaden its international perspective."

IGD aims to help people to grow, by bringing together intelligence, opinion and experience from the food and grocery chain. Its membership comprises more than 500 companies including farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and catering companies.

IGD also acts as a think tank, tracking, analysing and forecasting developments providing reports and events for its members.
