UK retail giant Tesco has received the accolade of South African Stonefruit Retailer of the Year 2012 from the country's grower union Hortgro.
The award was presented to Tesco's stonefruit technologist Natalie Slack by Hortgro product manager Jacques Du Preez at Tesco's UK headquarters last month.
Du Preez said: “Tesco has worked closely with the South African fruit industry’s promotional effort since it began in 2009 and has helped us communicate to customers the varieties, season and ethical attributes that make our stonefruit so unique.”
This year, Tesco included the South African logo on punnets of stonefruit in its international stores, and produced a customer information booklet on South African varieties.
'Crucially, Tesco has achieved a strong year-on-year performance during the season for South African stonefruit, which is a real endorsement of this coordinated and collaborative approach to marketing stonefruit.'
