Tesco bosses say they are the leading retailer of English apples – selling one for every person in the UK.
The multiple has moved 57 million apples across eight varieties, experiencing growth in market share to 29 per cent from 23.2 per cent in the 52 weeks ending March 3.
Apple buyer Simon Latham said: 'A year ago we set a very ambitious aspirational target to increase our share of English apple sales. To have achieved that growth in a negative market is an extremely positive sign for the future.' The retail giant stocks English apple varieties Discovery, Worcester, Spartan, Egremont Russet, Cox, Cameo, Royal Gala and Bramley.
