Tesco to use 'green' lorries

Tesco is to run three quarters of its distribution fleet on biodiesel from next month in a move which will cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70,000 tonnes a year, according to the supermarket giant.

The initiative will see the majority of its 2,000 lorries, which deliver to 754 stores and 716 smaller outlets, switch to the renewable energy source.

Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy said the move will be an “an extraordinary change”.
