Ramsey onion specialist, Gʼs Fresh, is hoping to inspire customers with its promotion of thelatest food trend into Tesco stores nationwide.

The retailer has welcomed in the exclusive ʻPickle Your Ownʼ promotional boxes afterseeing an increase in demand from customers.

The pack consists of all the essentials to create pickles at home including an airtightcontainer, malt vinegar and pickling onions, together with a recipe and directions onhow to create the perfect blend.

Pickling has been around for over 4,000 years, but the preserving practice is enjoying arenaissance in both homes and on restaurant menus throughout the country.

Gʼs account manager, Sally Beeton, said: 'Pickling is on the rise, and has been highlighted as very ʻon trendʼ with foodieconsumers. The Gʼs business specialises in this area and has used this expertise tocreate a kit for home use.

'Pickles are popular because theyʼre a way to add texture and a different flavour to adish whatever the season.'

A report by food trend agency, The Food People, put the rise in popularity down toinfluences from the Nordic food scene that has seen restaurants moving onfrom molecular gastronomy to a simple pared back way of cooking.

The trend ispushing the popularity of raw foods, vegetables and foraged foods and pickling them asa way of preserving for year round enjoyment.

Tesco commercial manager, Emma Williams, said: 'The new product launch is in response to working with our suppliers in highlightingproducts that are important to our customers.

'This enables us to produce an offer thatis both relevant and forward thinking. With the Christmas season fast approaching they also offer an alternative to the regulargifts of socks and slippers.'

Tesco Pickle Your Own kits are available nationwide for a limited period of time and arepriced at £5 each.
