Tesco has moved to quash industry rumours that it is making swingeing staff cuts in the produce department at its Cheshunt headquarters, citing annual operational reviews as the reason for any changes afoot.

“Every year as we finalise our budgets for the year ahead, we review the work carried out in our offices to ensure that we are working as simply and efficiently as possible, and on the things that we know will make a difference for our customers,” a Tesco spokesman told freshinfo.

“As a result, there are sometimes changes which affect some jobs in the office. Roles do change and others become redundant. However, there are plenty of growth areas which provide a range of opportunities for good people to continue with Tesco.

“Until we have spoken to everybody affected we can’t know how many people we don’t have roles for. Our aim is to offer everybody an alternative Tesco position - of which there are hundreds, in a variety of areas.”
