Tesco's new category director for its fresh produce department is Steve Murrells, right, who will head-up the fresh produce team after spending three years as category director of Tesco's meat, poultry and fish department.
Promotion to fresh produce – the supermarket's fastest growing business – will see Murrells responsible for the 'strategic direction' of this department.
He replaces Peter Fry who, after seven years in the category director role, was recently appointed as the supermarket's international produce director, responsible for produce operations at all of Tesco's overseas sites.
Murrells said: 'My challenge is to ensure we continue to listen to our customers and tailor our offer accordingly.
'Because produce is our fastest growing category, my job is to ensure that operationally, our business can cope with its growth.'
