Tesco plans to dazzle customers

Tesco plans to stock Dazzling Gold, a trademarked pear grown in several European countries and marketed by Netherlands-based company The Greenery, for a second season, FPJ has learned.

According to Bert Wilschut, topfruit manager at the Dutch group, the red-blushed pears will again be marketed as part of the retailer's Tesco Finest range after a successful trial in 2011/12.

"We've had some good success with Tesco Finest, so the plan is to continue this year," Wilschut said.

"It's important that, with such a premium product and given the variety's different appearance, we adopt a different approach in terms of marketing."
