Bonuses have pushed Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy’s pay beyond the £3 million mark, according to reports.
The retailer’s recent announcement that it has broken through the £2 billion profit barrier has seen Sir Terry earn a cash bonus that almost doubles his basic salary.
At the same time, more than 2,000 senior staff, from head office to store managers, will share £38m between them.
In total, the retailer is paying around £220m in bonuses to more than 150,000 staff.
The payouts follow a year in which Tesco saw pre-tax profits rise by 21 per cent to more than £2bn and sales rise 12.4 per cent to £37bn.
