Hamish Renton, formerly business planning manager for the fresh produce division at Tesco, has taken on additional responsibilities in another senior position within the organisation.

Into his shoes steps Christy VanMaanenberg, who will become business planning manager, with effect from August 18. "We have spent considerable time selecting a replacement and I know Christy will be an excellent addition to the team and able to bring her property and format experience to bear," said Renton.

"I have greatly enjoyed working in my previous role for the last two years. We have achieved a great deal at Tesco in that time - our market share is almost two per cent higher than it was in 2001 and we have consolidated our market leadership in produce.

"Arguably, more importantly we have clearly obtained thought and product leadership of the category. I'd like to thank everyone I have dealt with for their help in making this possible, and also my team, Sally, Rachel, Kathryn, Mike and Jenny, who remain the best in the business.

"I look forward to watching the next chapter of the Tesco produce success story over the coming months and years. I will be working with many of you over the coming months, albeit in a different capacity, and I look forward to this."
