The supermarket has revealed 350 workers in Dundee, Welwyn Garden City and Cardiff will be affected by the opening of the high-tech business centre in Bangalore.

The group is joining a growing list of companies that are moving call centres and IT jobs to India and other countries that can offer skilled workers at a fraction of UK pay rates. Workers will be given the chance to switch to other positions and consultations with unions had already begun.

Meanwhile, the store has announced the creation of almost 3,500 new shop-floor jobs in the UK. This news comes on top of the 10,000 jobs announced in April.

As part of the continued conversion of more than 850 One Stop convenience stores 1,400 new jobs will be created. Existing stores will create 2,000 jobs on the back of a strong trading performance.
