Tesco could be set to open 20 stores in Las Vegas as part of its US expansion strategy.

The supermarket giant is looking for sites in the Nevada city for its planned Fresh & Easy range of mini supermarkets, according to US real estate brokers.

The company has also registered its two US subsidiaries - Tesco Stores West and Tesco Stores Holdings - in Nevada, as well as California and Arizona.

Tesco announced its £250m US plans in March after conducting extensive market research that included setting up a trail store disguised as a film set.

The retailer plans to open 100 stores in its first year in southern California, as well as at least 20 in the Las Vegas area.
