Tesco is to open its most remote stores in the far-flung locations of the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, after its purchase of several Somerfield outlets.

Its arrival on the Scottish islands, as well as at Wick in the north of Scotland, gives the retailer outlets all over the country, according to The Telegraph - meaning Tesco has a store in all but one of the UK’s 121 postcodes.

The only town in the UK without a Tesco is now Harrogate, the Yorkshire spa town.

The new stores will open on the Scottish islands in May.
