Tesco has quashed rumours it is to overhaul its fresh produce distribution as it makes changes to its network.

The supermarket is closing its site at Fenny Lock, near Milton Keynes, and transferring the work to a new centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

It is also working on a new regional distribution centre at Beam Reach Business Park in Dagenham but a spokesperson told freshinfo neither site would affect fresh produce.

“All the changes will be affecting general grocery and non-food items but not fresh produce,” he said.

The retailer said the new site at Daventry was 60 per cent bigger than the one being closed and all the existing 764 staff will be offered the chance to work at the new centre.

Consultations over jobs at the Fenny Lock site began this month.
