Tesco is closing 12 of its Fresh & Easy stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.
The retailer has blamed the closures on the weakness of the economy and said it is opening 25 Fresh & Easy stores in other locations.
“So, for every store we’re closing we are temporarily opening two,” Tesco said.
It remains committed to the business and has said it is aiming for loss-making Fresh & Easy to break even by the end of its 2012-2013 financial year.
