Tesco is expected to announce tomorrow it has broken through the £2 billion profit barrier, making it the first retailer to achieve such a feat.
According to media reports, analysts are expecting Tesco to reveal profits of £2.05bn, compared with £1.66bn last year.
Like-for-like sales growth is also expected to be strong at around eight per cent for the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the retailer is also reported to be planning to open up a further 40 new stores in central Europe.
The Financial Times said Tesco, which has 194 stores across Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, is intending to increase its estate to 234 stores.
