Kwik Save has awarded the UK warehouse and distribution business for both its ambient and frozen volumes to TDG. The contract is worth more than £9 million a year.

All deliveries to the restructured grocer’s 184 stores nationwide will be made from TDG’s Warrington distribution centre, which has been redesigned to fulfil the Kwik Save business.

In addition to recruiting and training 192 employees including drivers, managers, clerical and warehouse staff, the TDG distribution centre at Appleton Link near Warrington has had alterations to racking; additional canteen and locker facilities and a new computer system installed within the 21 day time frame, as well as new trailers/units and mechanical handling equipment.

Barrie Brackstone TDG account director, is delighted with the business, and particularly how everyone has worked together to make it happen.

“We’ve had an absolutely fabulous response from the whole team at both TDG and Kwik Save,” he said. “Everyone’s pulled out the stops to make it happen - we’re used to working to tight deadlines and understand the demands of food retail, but it’s not everyday that you’re asked to recruit and train around 200 people, and get a warehouse fully functioning in just 3 weeks.

“It’s been a tall order, and we’ve risen to the challenge - I’ve got nothing but praise for my team.”
