Taylor made red onions

Red onions are becoming increasingly popular with consumers according to Bob Taylor, managing director of Bedfordshire Growers.

The result is that this year the group will be harvesting more than 4,000 tonnes to be sold loose and prepacked in the next 11 months.

"It has been possible due to the controlled atmosphere storage that we now have available," Taylor said.

This season hot dry weather has meant that quality of both crops raised from sets and seed has been particularly good. BG is using European bred varieties.
