Thompson & Morgan has unveiled details of its 2008 seed lineup.

The company has taken heed of the rising popularity for a more diverse range of fruit and vegetables in consumers’ diets by adding 90 new seed varieties, increasing its range to over 500.

New flower ranges include the Pink Parasol Echinacea, which the company has named ‘Perennial Flower of the Year’ for 2008. As well as its well-publicised health benefits, the Echinacea produces spectacular purple-pink blooms that can reach three to four inches, with contrasting orange cones. Also new for next year is the Echinacea Pururea ‘Double Decker’, which matures into ‘twin’ flowers in its second season.

For chocolate fans, the ‘chocolate daisy’ produces bright yellow daisy-like flowers with red stripes on the undersides and chocolate scented stamens.

In the evening, the chocolate daisy starts to bloom and shows off its flowers early the next morning, when the temperatures start to rise they drop their petals, which constantly replace themselves.

This year, the company has also introduced its first ever cauliflower to be bred with Club Root resistance. The Clapton F1. Hybrid produces large, uniform, solid deep white heads which mature in late summer to late autumn. The Kilaton F1. Hybrid cabbage also has a high level of Club Root resistance and produces autumn maturing ball head with a solid dense structure weighing up to 2kg (4.4lb).

Thompson and Morgan is also introducing a health-conscious potato, the ‘Vivaldi from Naturally Best’. These potatoes contain, on average, 26 percent fewer carbohydrates and 33 percent fewer calories.
