Take a 'Crunchbox' to work

Eat in Colour (EiC) is encouraging consumers feeling the pinch to save money by taking a ‘Crunchbox’ to work.

The healthy eating campaign is targeting workers with the message that making their own packed lunches can save a fortune and set them well on the way to their recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

A typical chicken sandwich, crisps, drink, chocolate bar and apple bought from a supermarket at lunchtime sets consumers back an average of £4.21 a day or £21.05 a week. This adds up to nearly £1,000.

EiC has put together two weekly Crunchbox plans, named the Fill Up for Less and the Eating for Heating plans.

The Fill Up for Less plan demonstrates how consumers can save the extra £250 they will need to pay for petrol this year, while the Eating for Heating plan will save more £10 a week or £450 per person per year, easily covering the rise in energy costs, estimated to be around £400 per household.
