Jean Louis Desclaux, pictured, of Syngenta said the two-day Syngenta Tomato Conference 2003, held in Alicante last week, was a sign of 'the commitment of Syngenta to the demands of the food chain, which is a long-term investment. The conference attracted around 400 delegates from 25 countries.

'Syngenta wants to move from being a seed company to an added value produce company,' he added. 'Tomatoes are high value global products, which is illustrated by the attendance of major players from 25 countries. This creates a powerful platform to build the business and from our side, you can count on our support for any initiatives that will answer all of our business objectives.

'Our common aim is consumer satisfaction. What does the consumer want and how can we answer their needs at all stages of the chain?'
