Swithenbank aims to expand customer base in South East with new depot

Foodservice supplier Swithenbank has opened a multi-temperature depot aimed at trebling its capacity in the South East.

The new chilled storage and distribution facility, in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, opened on 5 January.

It has nine loading bays, 30 vehicle docks and is located close to the M25 motorway.

The facility can cater for the individual temperature requirements of different orders using a five-temperature regime capacity and a fleet of controlled temperature lorries.

Managing director of Swithenbank, Andrew Tiplady, said the opening is a key part of the company’s expansion plans for 2014.

He said: “Our specialist foods, along with produce and fresh meat, have seen significant sales increases. The Hoddesdon depot will offer our business and the wider 3663 business the increased capacity needed to serve the South East.

“This is a key part of our expansion plans, which will see more facilities come on stream over the next 12 months. “The desire for customers to maximise purchasing by consolidation is growing. To accommodate this, our new depot will be a multi-temperature facility, meaning customers need only place one order, receive one delivery and one invoice, yet still have the specialist skills at hand.”

He added: “This ‘consolidated’ approach is also more sustainable, with fewer food miles being accrued.”

Swithenbank began as a family-run stall in Bradford and is now a supplier for prepared food company 3663.
