As cases of swine flu soar, workplace equipment provider Slingsby has been inundated with orders for products that will help to protect employees against the disease.

Chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson recently warned the NHS to brace itself for a steep rise in admissions, after swine flu cases in England doubled to 53,000 in just seven days.

In addition, this month sees the launch of a new government-backed TV and newspaper advertising campaign that warns about how easy it is to spread swine flu.

Lee Wright, marketing director of Slingsby, said: “Flu viruses are a big concern for all industries and with winter just around the corner we are experiencing unprecedented demand, from both employers and individual employees, for products that can help to prevent the spread of these bugs.

“People can significantly reduce the risk of catching and spreading swine flu and other similar viruses by washing their hands regularly and making sure that hard surfaces, such as door handles, desks and telephones, are properly sanitised.”

Slingsby has seen sales of alcoholic hand gel, hand sanitiser and a belt clip for hand sanitiser soar.
