Sweetie sender eyes up Europe

Australian exporter Ironbark Citrus & Grapes is expanding its portfolio of destinations for grapefruit-pomelo cross Sweetie, beyond the traditional Asian markets into Europe.

Ironbark’s Dominic Jenkin said: “Our predicted production of Sweetie for 2008 is approximately 14,000 cases.” The 13kg boxes are packed in count sizes varying from 18s to 32s. The season runs from March to July. The company specialises in easy-peel, grapefruit and exotic citrus varieties.

“Due to the shorter marine transit times, Ironbark generally focuses on the closer South East Asian markets, along with some Middle Eastern markets, but we also currently export to the Netherlands, Poland and Russia, with some potential interest from Turkey and Romania,” said Jenkins. “Although there are no exports planned for the UK, as we have not yet established market contacts, any interest generated by this market would definitely be pursued.”
