Supermarket fears over Italian stonefruit

Italian stonefruit growers are concerned supermarket competition is going to hit them hard this season.

The outlook for the Italian product, according to Carlo Bianchi, co-ordinator at Italian fresh produce business association Fruitimprese, is for short supplies in June and plenty of product in July. “At this point in the season prices are quite satisfactory, but we will have to wait to see what happens when more fruit becomes available.”
