Supajus provides healthy option

SUPAJUS, the first orange juice drink enriched with Omega-3 DHA, has been launched nationwide by the Natural Fruit and Beverage Company.

The drink contains 0.1 grams of pure tuna oil (Omega-3 DHA) half the recommended daily intake, but it tastes like a normal orange juice drink.

With growing health concerns in the UK, the juice is available for children in school vending machines across the country and Holland and Barrett health food stores nationwide.

The technology behind the production of Supajus is from Nu-Mega Ingredients Pty Ltd, an Australian company now operating in the UK. The firm recently won the American Oil Society's Award for innovation in micro encapsulation technology.

Nu-Mega ingredients' business development manager Jerry Luff says: "Our challenge was to create a stable orange juice drink with a long shelf-life, which is enriched with Omega-3 DHA without altering flavour or consistency. Shelf-life evaluation trials were conducted, including microbiological testing, sensory evaluation and comprehensive chemical analysis of oil extracted from the drink. The result is a tasty and healthy orange juice drink for kids to enjoy.”

Nu-Mega's unique micro encapsulation process allows them to take pure tuna oil, refine it to ensure no heavy metals are present, and turn it into a stable dry powder, known as Driphorm™ which can be added to all kinds of food.

Omega-3s are vital for the development and maintenance of the brain and eye and are recognised as valuable nutrients as part of a healthy diet.
