Sundowner sales soar

Sales of Sundowner apples received a significant boost in July and August, rising by 48 per cent compared to the same period in 2005.

UK marketing agent Coregeo attributes the rise to a good quality crops and increased retail support. Coregeo’s managing director Andy Macdonald said: “The sales figures reflect increased availability with fruit coming from South Africa, Chile and Australia.

“We’ve also seen an increase in retailer support which of course has helped enormously, and this has been partly due to our campaign Juicy Science, which launched earlier this year and is proving very popular.”

The campaign’s website, www.juicyscience.co.uk has also proved popular, with hits increasing steadily over the last three months, the company added.

Juicy Science aims to increase an interest in both science and healthy eating for children, and has so far received coverage in the national press.

Extending this, it also recently launched a joint competition with Science Museum to appear in First News - a national newspaper aimed at children- in September.
