Sun World International has been approved by the Supreme Court of California to become the exclusive marketer of nearly 1 million cartons of organic grapes that were previously grown by and marketed by Pavich Family Farms. According to Steve Franson, the court appointed receiver in this case: "The selection of Sun World to market this product will provide a strong market presence for the Pavich organic table grape crop. Pavich organic grapes complement and enhance Sun World's marketing season from beginning to end. The product has been grown by the Pavich team, and they have done an excellent job of preparing the crop for harvest." Under the agreement, all Californian grown product will be picked, packed and marketed by Sun World. The varieties include Perlette, Thompson, Red Flame, Red Globe, Crimson, Ruby and Emperor. According to information from the California Certified Organic Producers Sun World will now market over one half of all the certified grape acreage in California. 'We recognise that organics [represents] an important business segment to speciality and traditional retail outlets and we certainly have a marketing team that has the information and experience to make this transition a smooth one," said Sun World's senior vice president of sales and marketing Mike Aiton. "We are anxious to get this product out into distribution and feel confident that the image and standards of the Pavich Family Farms will be carried forward."
