Queues formed around the Jazz stand

Jazz apples took the BBC Good Food Show by storm last week with more than 20,000 apples directly reaching consumers.

Some 20,625 of the branded apple were sampled and bought over the five-day show at the NEC in Birmingham between the November 24 and 29.

The Jazz team sold 500 apple slicers, gave out more than 300 recipe cards and signed up more than 2000 people for its newsletter and competition.

Gary Harrison, commercial manager at Worldwide Fruit, said: “With the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver and James Martin all at the event it was a sure-fire winner in terms of passionate food loving consumers.

“With over 100,000 people attending the event over five days, it was absolutely non-stop sampling on the Jazz stand and on many occasions we simply could not keep up with the demand for the delicious slices of Jazz apple. Queues of 15-20 people were not uncommon and their immensely positive reaction to the fruit completely vindicated our decision to showcase Jazz.

“This year we favoured a UK orchard feel with a backdrop of UK Jazz grower pictures and a real live bulk bin of Jazz apples, which formed the basis of a competition that we ran throughout the show. This too proved incredibly popular with over 2000 people entering, who automatically qualify to receive our monthly Jazz newsletter. Already following the event, we have experienced a sales spike as consumers experience and enjoy Jazz apples for the first time and then go out and purchase from their local retailer.”
