A flower bed recreating Stoke’s famous ceramics industry has collected the top award in the RHS/Ball Colegrave National Flower Bed Competition at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Created by Stoke-on-Trent, the flower bed was designed to reflect the ‘bold and colourful designs of Clarice Cliff’. It collected the ‘Best Exhibit’ title, together with a gold medal.

The colours and bold geometric shapes of Cliff, a former Stoke resident who came to prominence 90 years ago, influenced the colour combinations and use of Angelonia ‘Serena Purple’, Coleus ‘Wizard Green’ and Marigold ‘Durango Red’ in the winning exhibit.

Bob Sweet, head of shows development, said: "Stoke-on-Trent's entry really impressed the judges because it fully realised its brief and reflected the colour and pattern of Cliff's work so accurately. The quality of the planting was outstanding and the attention to detail was second to none."
