Produce businesses are being urged to enter the Daily Telegraph Taste of Britain Awards which aims to celebrate the best of British foods.
Entries will be judged not just on taste, texture and quality of their produce, but also their production standards, sustainability and whether they have a positive impact on the local community.
This prestigious competition is supported by Sainsbury’s, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Food from Britain and IGD, is open to food producers large and small from across the regions.
Designed to salute the very best of British foods, gold, silver and bronze standard will be awarded to regional food producers in each product category: Best UK Food, Best UK Drink/Beverage, Best Regional/Ethnic food, Best Organic Food and Best Seasonal Food.
Entries must be in by Friday 16 December and winners will be selected for the quality and excellence of their products.
Minister for Sustainable Farming and Food, Lord Bach, said: “The Taste of Britain Awards is a great way for us to showcase the very best of home-grown quality regional foods produced in this country. I know from my own experience of meeting our regional food producers that the quality of what they produce, whether rooted in tradition or embracing innovation is often of the highest standard and deserves to be highlighted. As Taste of Britain is in its first year, I hope that the high standards of entries to this year’s event will help set a precedent for years to come.”
