Sputnik plans cherry and plum PR push

Sputnik Communications is to promote both the British cherry and plum industry campaigns this year.

The agency, which has been credited with helping boost British soft-fruit sales through its handling of the British Summer Fruit (BSF) industry campaign, has won funding to promote the 2012 PR push. The decision was announced at a recent BSF board meeting.

Berry sales have grown for the past seven consecutive years, while a successful PR campaign was also run last year by Sputnik.

“We saw valuable editorial support for cherries last year in national media which we will continue in 2012, said Nick Marston, spokesperson for British cherries and English plums. "We see similar potential to promote the plum industry and remind consumers why they should seek English plums in store.”

The activity is funded by fruit marketing companies Berry Gardens, Total Cherry and Norton Folgate, who represent approximately 90 per cent of cherry and 85 per cent of plum sales to retailers in the UK.
