Spudding entrepreneurs: potato firms put chips on social media

Europe’s biggest potato processor has shown it doesn’t think social media is a flash-in-the-pan fad by chipping in with a Twitter page for chefs, caterers and consumers.

Aviko said it will run an interactive, up-to-the minute feed that will be a fun, factual feast for its followers, building on awareness already created by the recent launch of its dedicated new website: www.aviko.co.uk

Tweets are already hitting the @aviko page such as this one from Phil Divine: “@AvikoUK An age-old, but important question: How do you get chips crispy on the outside, but fluffy on the inside?”

Mohammed Essa, General Manager UK & Ireland, Aviko, said there will be no shortage of Mr Potato Heads for users to win.

“We’re very excited to be launching a dedicated social media presence. Twitter gives us the opportunity to listen to our customers and further the industry dialogue, all the while building even stronger relationships with key stakeholders.

“I am proud to say that we are the first in our industry to establish a presence there, and we will ensure we keep our followers entertained with the right mix of relevant practical support, healthy debate and no shortage of Mr Potato Head’s as prizes.“

There seems to be no shortage of spudding media entrepreneurs in the potato industry as Lord Chips has just launched dedicated website www.lordchips.com a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/lordchipsproperchips

The company says the sites give fryers the perfect platform to “shout about their shops, chat about their chips, win fantastic prizes and keep up to speed with the industry”.
