The British Sprout Growers Association (BSGA) was delighted with the success of its stand at the BBC's Festive Good Food Show at Earl's Court, London last week.

The BSGA took the stand to promote the health benefits and culinary versatility of sprouts under the banner "Sprouts are for life, not just for Christmas".

The association served more than 34 gallons of winter warming sprout, chestnut and smoky bacon soup to visitors, and over the three-day event BSGA chef Felice Tocchini got through in excess of 300lbs of pre-prepared sprouts making a host of dishes (see Bushel box).

The sprouts were donated by BSGA president and Lincolnshire grower Roger Welberry, of the Holme Farm Group, Swineshead. He said: "Felice's cookery demonstrations and the dishes we sampled from the stand meant we were never short of a crowd. Attending the show has been an exhausting but worthwhile activity, especially as we had so many converts."

Stand visitors included celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Gary Rhodes. Welberry said: "Both these guys thought our efforts to encourage people to eat more sprouts were commendable and good fun. It's fantastic to know we have their support."
