A little sunshine and lighter evenings seem to have encouraged a general upturn in the nation’s mood and as we surge ahead into the second quarter of an eventful - and for many an uncertain - year, we continue to strive to improve trade within the sector. The last four weeks have seen us discussing industry matters, on your behalf, at many government levels, both in the UK and the EU.

The recent New Covent Garden Market (soon to be known as The Garden) annual reception was particularly upbeat and it was great to hear of the progress made over the last 12 months and of the vision for the future of this vibrant London wholesale market - we will watch with interest as plans unfold.

I was delighted to speak at the recent LINKFresh seminar, and to see such a good turnout. We viewed with interest the latest technology and impressive bespoke business systems on offer.

Thanks to all who have supported the Automatic Licence Verification System (ALV) pilot scheme, which is now well underway. Your input is crucial to test this system and ensure difficulties are identified prior to going live.

A busy month saw us at the Gherkin last week, due to the kind hospitality of Pro-Mexico, where we attended an impressive reception to discuss trading matters with exporters looking for UK business. If importing from Mexico is a consideration for you, please let me know and we will be delighted to organise an introduction.

Our meeting earlier this week, organised in conjunction with SITPRO, was also extremely useful and gave members an opportunity to identify key areas in which trade within the industry can be improved at government level. We continue to work with you and SITPRO to ensure the voice of the industry is well and truly heard.

The Re:fresh Awards entry deadline is this week and we are thrilled at the level of interest from the industry. If you have over-run the deadline but still wish to submit, contact Angie at the office and I am sure we can offer a few days’ grace.

Have a wonderful Easter break, may the sun shine and the chocolate be plentiful!
