Spooky peppers hit Sainsbury's

A spooky alternative the pumpkin is to appear at selected Sainsbury’s stores in time for Halloween.

Halloween peppers, which come in a two-pack featuring one orange and one unnerving black pepper, have been exclusively produced by fruit and vegetable specialist The Greenery.

The unusual black pepper is a unique variety grown by Leon Barendse & Karel Berkhout in the Netherlands.

The product comes with creepy cutting patterns so that consumers can give the peppers their own Jack o’Lantern faces.

John-Paul Burton, commercial manager at Greenery UK, said: “We are always looking for different varieties of fruit and vegetables to can offer our customers. These black peppers are only available for a short period, but have come out just in time for Halloween.

“Mums and dads can use the peppers as a tasty alternative to the usual pumpkin. Children can carve out a spooky face to create a mini Halloween lantern - making these more of a treat than a trick.”
