The Spitalfields Market Tenants' Association has announced that Janet Hutchinson is to become its new chief executive.
Hutchinson already has a strong involvement with the market and the wholesale trade through the family business Arthur Hutchinson Ltd.
Her responsibilities will range from hosting visitors to the market, to co-ordinating the east London site’s relations with the forthcoming Olympic Games in 2012.
Hutchinson told freshinfo: “It was a very easy decision for me as I am already involved with the market and know all the personalities - both the traders and the authorities.
“The Olympics does offer a challenge and there may be an issue with the roadworks, which are not an issue now but may become one.
“I look forward to taking on the role from Jim Heppel. He will leave a fantastic legacy after 27 years in the job with the connections he has established. He will definitely be a tough act to follow.”
Hutchinson will take up the new role on 6 April.
