Spar has unveiled a major recruitment drive and is offering incentives to new retailers as competition in the convenience sector hots up.
The group said it is in talks with a 'large number of retailers looking to switch to the most stable and successful symbol group in the UK”, and is offering local incentives and investment opportunities to tempt new recruits.
Spar UK has seen six per cent sales growth during the last financial year, marking its sixth consecutive year of growth. Own label sales and store numbers are both up by five per cent.
Spar UK retail director Ian Taylor said: “We are really excited to welcome a new wave of convenience retailers to Spar. Convenience retailing continues to be one of the most competitive markets to operate in, and it is testament to the hard work that after 60 years we are still the number one symbol group for independent retailers to work with.”
Retailers can expect to hear from Spar advising them on why they should make the move, while sales teams are in talks with a large number of interested retailers, the company said.
“We have a lot to offer as we continue to provide the best service to all our independent retailers while at the same time enabling them to retain their independence,” said Taylor.
“In joining Spar, retailers have access to a phenomenal range of top-quality benefits and services, including co-investment, excellent availability, business advice and support-dedicated BDMs tasked to grow sales, margin and profit; individual store design, marketing investment, foodservice innovation and an enviable own label range.
“We are ready, right now, to move the convenience sector to the next level and bring independent retailers a bright and exciting future.”
